This post is part of a bi-weekly series in which we get to know Sifties.
Samantha Cowan is a recruiter who has been with Sift Science for a year. If she could be any animal, it would be a black wild mustang because they’re so beautiful and free.
What three traits define you?
Where is your favorite place to be?
Tulum, Mexico. I went there randomly four years ago on my birthday with my now-husband, and have gone back three times since and we just got married there last month! It’s very relaxing there, with beautiful white sand and turquoise water.
How did you get interested in being a recruiter?
I was in HR at another company for my first corporate job and I wasn’t stimulated by it — I did benefits administration and data entry. An opportunity came up in recruiting and I went for it! I loved the idea of helping people find their dream job. That was in 2012 and I haven’t looked back since.
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
A pediatrician. I always liked the idea of helping kids, and – of course – being a doctor seemed cool. But math and science weren’t my strong suit.
You used to do taekwondo. Tell me about it!
My mom enrolled my sister and me in 4th grade — she wanted us to be strong and have more extracurriculars (at the time we just played soccer). We both got up to a brown belt, then I got to 6th grade I didn’t think it was cool anymore so I quit. I wish I would’ve kept up with it because it would’ve been pretty badass.
